Salasar Techno builds hybrid FM towers for Prasar Bharati
Each structure weighs approximately 91,000 kg and is manufactured from high-tensile steel with a yield stress of 350 MPa.
Salasar Techno Engineering Ltd is enhancing India’s public broadcasting system by implementing a six-tower Hybrid FM program for Prasar Bharati’s All India Radio. This initiative, initiated by the Office of the Additional Director General, aligns with the Government of India’s goal for universal public broadcasting and aims to extend AIR’s coverage to remote villages, underserved areas, and strategic border locations. The project, valued at Rs 13.5 crore, encompasses the Design, Supply, Erection, Testing, and Commissioning (DSETC) of six towers, two of which have already been completed in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and Sitamarhi, Bihar.
Building next-generation broadcast infrastructure
The towers are engineered as 100-metre-high square self-supporting lattice steel structures, designed for robustness and future versatility, capable of accommodating FM, Band II FM, UHF TV, MW Dish, and Mobile antennas. These scalable assets address evolving broadcasting needs. The engineering design has been independently verified by Dr Kamal Jain from IIT Roorkee, ensuring technical reliability and compliance with standards IS:875-2015 (Part 3) and IS:800:2007, with STAAD Pro analyses confirming their structural integrity.
Engineered to endure wind speeds up to 170 km/h and designed for a service life of 100 years, the towers are constructed for long-term durability in challenging geographic conditions. Each structure weighs approximately 91,000 kg and is manufactured from high-tensile steel with a yield stress of 350 MPa. Additionally, they undergo hot-dip galvanisation post-fabrication to enhance durability and prevent corrosion.
Supporting India’s public broadcasting goals
Shashank Agarwal, Managing Director, Salasar Techno Engineering Ltd, said, “We are proud to support Prasar Bharati in strengthening India’s public broadcasting backbone through a project of national importance. The successful commissioning of the first two Hybrid FM Towers reflects our commitment to engineering excellence, timely execution and infrastructure that delivers lasting public value. Our contribution to this programme goes beyond tower construction. It is about enabling wider access to public information, extending broadcast reach to underserved regions, and supporting a resilient communications infrastructure for the country.”
Expanding connectivity
The six-tower Hybrid FM programme exemplifies Salasar Techno Engineering’s expertise in executing complex, high-performance infrastructure projects aligned with strategic national goals. With two towers commissioned and four others in progress, the company actively contributes to developing resilient infrastructure that enhances public service delivery and promotes long-term national connectivity.
